Eagles Soar Past Marymount (Va.) 4-0 on Saturday

Fredericksburg, Va.-- THe University of Mary Washington men's soccer team picked up and impressive 4-0 victory on Saturday over Marymount (Va.). The Eagles struck early with two first half goals, then added two in the second half to seal the win. 

Jacob Burke (Spotsylvania, Va./Chancellor) took a pass from senior Kevin Murphy (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and placed it past Saints keeper Logan Cropper to take an early 1-0 lead at the 31:36 mark. Burke struck again just 11 minutes later. Again it was Murphy setting up Burke who got his second of the game to increase the lead to 2-0. 

The Eagles picked up where they left off scoring again eight minutes into the second stanza. Tommy Sangbouasy (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) scored unassisted off of a rebound to make the lead 3-0. Freshman Andrew Osiecki (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) capped off the scoring with a strike from about 25 yards out past Cropper on the left side off another Murphy assist. 

The Eagles outshot the Saints 18-2 in the contest, including not giving up a shot in the second half. Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) played 73 minutes of shutout soccer, and fellow keeper Jack Eaton (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) played 17 minutes to combine for the shutout. Murphy and Burke paced all players with four shots each.

UMW returns to action on Wednesday, October 9th. The Eagles welcome Salisbury to the Battleground for a match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
