Fisher Propels Men's Soccer Past Gettysburg, 2-1, in Overtime Victory

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team picked up a very impressive overtime win over Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon. Two Eagle freshman, Lino Gallo (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) and Riley Fisher (Staunton, Va./Stuart Hall School) each scored in the contest.

Gallo put the Eagles ahead early in the first half. Gallo connected on a rocket over the head of Bullet keeper Connor Darrell. The shot ricochceted off the crossbar and snuck over the line to put UMW up 1-0 at the 35:03 mark of the game. The tally was the second of the year for Gallo. Gettysburg answered with the game-tying goal from Andrew McLane late in the second half. McLane connected on a header from a pass from Brooks Taylor with 13 minutes to go in regulation.

The game remained tied as time expired, sending the contest into overtime. In the extra session, UMW freshman Riley Fisher got on the other end of a Carlos Mendoza (Herndon, Va./Herndon) corner kick. Fisher put it past Darrell to give the Eagles the victory. "The freshman have stepped up so far this year. It provides a good variety," said head coach Jason Kilby after his teams 2-1 OT victory.

UMW keeper Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) made six saves in the game for the Eagles.

The Eagles return to action next Wednesday, September 25th. UMW hosts Dickinson at the Battleground. The match begins at 4:00 p.m.
