Men's Soccer Completes Second Half Comeback, Defeats Kean, 3-2, on Saturday

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team won a thrilling 3-2 match over visiting Kean University. The Eagles scored three unanswered goals in the second half to complete the come-from-behind victory. All three goals came in a seven minute span. The Eagles improve to 5-2 on season.

Kean got the scoring started with Kevin Olaya putting it past UMW keeper Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) off of a deflection at the 36 minute mark. The Cougars got another goal just a minute into the second half. Kenny Rocha scored off a missed PK by teammate Stephen Moll, beating Waltz.

UMW rallied back with a flurry of goals. Lino Gallo (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) scored off a beautiful pass from Shepherd at the 75 minute. Mike Bennett (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown) scored just four minutes later off a Shepherd pass to tie the game up at 2-2 at the 78 minute. Riley Fisher (Staunton, Va./Stuart Hall School) capped the comback  beating Kean keeper Tyler Callahan with eight minutes remaining in the game.

UMW keeper Ian Waltz made two saves for the Eagles. Fisher lead all players with four shots, two on goal.

The Eagle return to action this Wednesday, September 18th. The Eagles will take on Gettysburg from the Battleground beginning at 4:00 p.m.
