Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Randolph, 3-0

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped the season opener on Friday afternoon 3-0 to Randolph College. 

The Wildcats got the scoring started with two first half tallies and never looked back. Jake Hood and John Adams scored at the 12 and 17 minute marks respectively. John Vecchietti added the third goal 13 minutes into the second half. "They were a step ahead of us all game," UMW head coach Jason Kilby said about Randolph. "They capitalized on every opportunity they had." 

Junior Tyler Back (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) recorded two saves in the loss, while freshman Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) tallied one save in relief. Senior Nick Shepherd (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) and freshman Riley Fisher (Staunton, Va./Stuart Hall) each had two shots in the contest. 

The UMW men's soccer team returns to action Saturday against Eastern Mennonite. The match with the Royals kicks off at 2:30 pm.
