UMW Men's Soccer Falls at #17 Messiah, 4-1

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team fell for the first time this season on Saturday night at 17th ranked Messiah College, 4-1. The Eagles, who see their three-game shutout and win streak snapped, fall to 3-1 on the year.

The Falcons scored on a corner kick in the 25th minute to assume the lead, and added another goal in the final minute before halftime to take a 2-0 advantage to intermission.

UMW wasted little time to start the second half, as sophomore Nick Shepherd scored his first goal of the season at 45:31. Messiah scored again in the 49th minute to up the lead to 3-1, and capped the scoring in the 84th minute.

Messiah led in shots, 31-8, and had 13 corner kicks to one for UMW. Sophomore Tyler Back had seven save sin goal for the Eagles, while Brandon West had one stop for Messiah.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Catholic University at 5:00 p.m.
