UMW Men's Soccer Falls to York in CAC Semifinals, 3-0

Third-seeded York College erupted for three goals to upend second-seeded Mary Washington in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament on Wednesday in Fredericksburg. The Eagles see their season come to an end at 7-7-3 overall.

The Eagles had a quality chance midway through the first half, when midfielder Tommy Sangbouasy dribbled past a diving York goalkeeper. But a Spartan defender stepped in the path of Sangbouasy's shot, preventing UMW from taking the lead. Instead, York scored as Justin Facer scored on a 35-yard shot through traffic at 36:43 to put the Spartans ahead, 1-0.

York upped the lead to 2-0 on a Cody Pearson goal at 50:57, and added another score from Taylor Brummit at 54:36. The Spartans led in shots, 16-6, and in corner kicks, 6-1. Freshman Tyler Back (Falls Church, Va., George Mason)made four saves in goal for UMW, while Ethan Kavanaugh had two stops for York.

York will advance to the CAC Championship on Saturday.
