Eagles Men's Soccer Tops Gettysburg, 3-1

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team erupted for three scores from three different players in a 3-1 win over Gettysburg College at the Battleground on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 2-0-1 on the season.

After Gettysburg had several early chances in the game, it was the Eagles who scored first, as senior T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy) scored his fourth goal of the year on an assist from Robby Davis (Locust Grove, Va., James Monroe) at 10:04. Davis crossed the ball from the left flank to the cutting Tutor, whose shot eluded the Gettysburg goalie to give UMW the 1-0 advantage.

The Eagles added to their lead at 50:06 as senior Ryan Taibl (Centreville, Va., Westfield) scored on a Duke Mensah-Abrampah (Gainesville, Va., Battlefield) assist, and the lead swelled to 3-0 as junior Will Gallop (Charlottesville, Va., Charlottesville) scored on a John Tarley (Williamsburg, Va., Jamestown) feed at 75:42. Gettysburg scored on a penalty kick at 87:47 by Andrew McLane.

Mary Washington outshot Gettysburg, 14-9, with Gettysburg holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Hunter Wooten (Westhampton Beach, N.Y., Westhampton Beach) had three saves for Mary Washington, while Mike Walmer had three saves for the Bullets.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 4:30 p.m.
