Mensah-Abrampah Leads UMW Men's Soccer Into CAC Semifinals

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Freshman Duke Mensah-Abrampah (Gainesville, Va., Battlefield) scored a pair of goals to lead the third seeded University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win over sixth seeded Marymount University in Capital Athletic Conference Tournament first round action at the Battleground. The Eagles will visit second-seeded York College on Tuesday in the CAC Semifinals.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Eagles hold a slight 6-4 edge in shots, The Saints were first to score as Nathan Blumenschein scored on a Cherif Moktefi assist at 69:53. Trailing 1-0, the Eagles used one of their 11 corner kicks on the afternoon for their first score, as sophomore John Tarley (Williamsburg, Va., Jamestown) found Mensah-Abrampah on a header at 82:41 for the tying score.

The teams battled for the final eight minutes of regulation and the first 10 minute overtime period without a score, but Mensah-Abrampah ended the game with a goal at 103:23 on a pass from T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy) on a counter attack.

Mary Washington outshot Marymount, 19-9, and had 1 corners to five for the Saints. Emmett Rutkowski (Culpeper, Va., Culpeper) had three saves for the Eagles, while William Brahmmstedthad five stops for Marymount.

The Eagles will visit York College on Tuesday in the conference semifinals. The Eagles and Spartans played to a 0-0 tie at UMW's homecoming two weeks ago.
