Mensah-Abrampah's Score Leads UMW Men's Soccer Past Stevenson

STEVENSON, MD - Freshman midfielder Duke Mensah-Abrampah (Gainesville, Va., Battlefield) scored the game's only goal in the 49th minute to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Stevenson University on Wednesday in Capital Athletic Conference play. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-3 overall, having won eight of their last nine games, and 4-0 in CAC play.

After a scoreless first half, Mensah-Abrampah wasted little time in putting the Eagles on the scoreboard in the second frame. Senior Ryan Taibl (Centreville, Va., Westfield) picked up the assist with a cross from the left to the streaking Mensah-Abrampah, who scored from 12 yards out.

The Eagles outshot the Mustangs, 13-8, and had nine corner kicks to three for Stevenson. UMW senior Emmett Rutkowski (Culpeper, Va., Culpeper) picked up the shutout, making four saves. Ryan Flannelly had five saves for Stevenson.

Mary Washington will visit Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
