Gearoid Dunbar Named Director of Rugby at UMW

The University of Mary Washington is proud to announce the hiring of Gearoid Dunbar as the Director of Rugby. Dunbar will oversee operations of both the men's and women's rugby programs.

"At this moment in time, we have an excellent opportunity to introduce our first ever Director of Rugby Operations and Gearoid Dunbar is the perfect fit!", said UMW Director of Athletics Patrick Catullo.

Dunbar comes to Mary Washington from New Mexico Tech University, where he has served as Head Rugby Coach and Club Sports Coordinator since 2019. In his time at New Mexico Tech, he has developed and coached the men's and women's rugby teams, managed and advised all university club sport teams, recruited and scouted potential players, oversaw all budgeting and finances for all sport teams, and served as project manager for physical recreation facilities refurbishment.

"I am excited for the opportunity to work with such fantastic programs", said Dunbar. "I look forward to working with all of the players on the men's and women's teams, both on and off the pitch."

Prior to arriving at New Mexico Tech, Dunbar served as Youth Development Officer, Women's Backs Coach, and Head Men's Coach in Carlow, Ireland, for Leinster Rugby Club, I.T. Carlow, and Carlow Rugby Club.

His playing experience includes a successful stint with Institute of Technology Carlow, and the Carlow Rugby Club.
