UMW Men's Rugby Tops Mount St. Mary's to Capture Chesapeake Conference Title

UMW finished their Chesapeake Conference season with a nice 2nd half push to defeat Mount St Mary's 43-10 at home. The win meant that UMW finished the season with the maximum 40 points possible in the conference, earning the try bonus every game and scoring 461 points and only allowing 75.

The Mount scored an unconverted try about 5 minutes in off a nice backline play to start the scoring. UMW put up the next 12 points off nice try's from Tom Williams and Jack Levine, Tom kicking the conversion of Jack's try. The Mount scored again at the 22 min mark followed quickly by another try by Tom Williams that he converted. Williams ended the first half with 14 points.

UMW outscored the Mount 31-0 in the second half with try's by Nathan Neri, Michael Sacks, Bradlee Nichols and Terence McPhillips IV. The Mount is to be commended for their play. Many of these players on these teams have known each other since HS and it was nice to see the rivalry continue as they line up against the same guys year after year.

Of note this was Terence and Nathan's and Fernando Meersohn's last conference game as they are seniors.

Also noteworthy, this was the first time this year that Bradlee Nicholls was held to only one try as he has touched down 20 times in 8 games, scoring multiple try's in the first 7 weeks.

UMW will travel for the national playoffs in 2 weeks to either Cincinnati or Bowling Green, Ohio depending on seedlings.
