UMW Men's Rugby Stops James Madison, 48-7

UMW Men's Rugby Stops James Madison, 48-7
UMW endured some physical play from JMU and some early missed passes and pulled away for a 48-7 Chesapeake Conference victory to improve to 7-0 in league play.

According to assistant coach and S&C guru Tyler Stephens "we knew that JMU would counter ruck really hard and to their credit they stole a few, the difference was hat we did not get rattled and adjusted".

UMW's defense continued to be stingy this year, not allowing a try until the 43rd minute. Head Coach Min Sae Chae has made defense a year long project and it is paying off.

The first half ended with UMW leading 22-0 behind try's from fullback Bradlee Nicholls, wing Nathan Neri and 8-man Matthew Gordon.

The 2nd half opened with JMU scoring a converted try at the 43:00 minute mark. UMW re-grouped and posted try's by Daniel Northwood, Matthew Gordon, Bradlee Nicholls and Jordan Sacks

Men of the match were UMW's 6-4, 230 lb freshman flyhalf Michael Sacks and junior scrumhalf Harry Masters - both of whom played a very physical game at a fast pace.

UMW hosts a very good Mount St Mary's team at home next week at the Battleground in Fredericksburg.
