UMW Men's Lax Falls at #1 Salisbury, 18-6, on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 decision at top-ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday evening on Maryland's Eastern shore. The Eagles slip to 7-6 on the season.

The Eagles started strong on the defensive end, as the game remained scoreless for the first nearly eight minutes. But the Sea Gulls netted five goals in the second half of the period, and the first three of the second, to gain an 8-0 advantage. The Eagles got on the board with 11:07 left in the second, as Henry Moag scored on a Keller Dillman assist. After a pair of Salisbury goals, freshman Logan Cardwell scored on a man-up opportunity in the waning seconds before halftime.

In the third, the Sea Gulls extended the lead, before a pair of Eagle goals, from Jackson Popeck at 4:00, and from Nick Elentrio Jr. a 2:54 on a Popeck assist. Sophomore Dave Votapek capped the third quarter scoring in the final seconds. The teams traded single goals in the fourth, with Christian Fleming scoring on the man-up from a Nathan Turney feed.

Salisbury led in shots, 56-22, and ground balls, 40-25. Junior Wyatt Martin made 15 saves, while sophomore Ryan D'Angelo made three and Riley Green one. Keegan Shipe grabbed five ground balls for the Eagles.

The Eagles will be back in action on April 17 when they host Christopher Newport at 3:30 p.m.
