UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to #2 Salisbury, 23-10, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 23-10 decision to #2 Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 6-10 on the season.

Salisbury opened the first quarter with the first two goals, but the Eagles responded with the next three to take a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes. Senior attacker J.D. Nozemack opened the Eagles' scoring with an unassisted tally with 4:28 remaining, and Garrett Keogh followed on a Jackson Davis assist with 3:27 left. Carter Lynch put the Eagles ahead with his score with 2:13 on the clock.

The Sea Gulls opened the second quarter with three scores, but Jackson Popeck stopped the run with a score on a Nozemack assist with 10:53 remaining. Salisbury then reeled off seven straight goals to close the quarter, and took a 12-4 advantage to halftime.

In the third, after a SU score, Keegan Shipe scored unassisted with 13:32 left. Salisbury added another before Dave Votapek netted a goal on a Keogh assist with 9:31 remaining. The Sea Gulls scored the next four goals, before the Eagles closed the third with scores from Votapek and Nozemack.

The teams opened the fourth by trading goals, with Mike Seraphin-Jones scoring UMW's tally with 9:19 on the clock. Salisbury scored the next four before Nozemack capped the day's scoring on a man-down goal with 1:11 left.

The Sea Gulls led in shots, 50-32, and ground balls, 36-21. Riley Green had nine saves, Wyatt Martin four, and David Pritchard none in goal for the Eagles.

UMW will complete its suspended game against Kean University on Sunday at noon.
