UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Marymount, 17-7, Behind Nozemack's Eight Points

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team used a decisive second quarter to pull away from Marymount University, 17-7, on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. Senior J.D. Nozemack scored three goals and added five assists for the Eagles, 5-5 on the season.

UMW's Ethan Castleman opened the scoring at 13:09 on a Nozemack assist, and after a Marymount score, Michael Seraphin-Jones followed unassisted at 10:21. The Saints netted the next two to take a 3-2 lead at the close of the first quarter.

In the second, the Eagle offense awoke, outscoring the Saints, 10-1, including the first eight of the quarter. Castleman opened the scoring on a Nozemack assist at 14:15, and Garrett Keogh and Dave Votapek scored UMW's second and third tally in less than a minute, at 13:31. Seraphin-Jones and Votapek each scored on Nozemack assists, and Carter Lynch gave UMW an 8-3 lead with 8:07 left before halftime.

Owen Castleman then scored on an assist from his brother Ethan, and Henry Moag posted a tally with 5:07 on the clock. After a Marymount goal, the Eagles closed with a score from Jackson Popeck, on a Balin Galbraith assist, and another from Moag with a Nozemack helper, giving UMW a 12-4 halftime advantage.

Moag opened the third on a Keogh asisst, and after Marymount answered, Nozemack scored three straight to close the third, with assists from Jackson Davis, Owen Castleman, and Colby Haag. Reece Stone capped the scoring for the Eagles on a Luke WIlliams assist in the fourth.

The Eagles led in shots, 53-27, as well as ground balls, 39-28. The Eagles won 14-25 faceoffs, and goalkeepers Riley Green and Nick Balducci combined for 12 saves with Green posting 11 in 52 minutes.

UMW will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles visit Bridgewater College at 7:00 p.m.
