UMW Men's Lax Tops Emmanuel, 14-6, on Friday

Junior attackman Henry Moag scored four goals and added an asisst to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 victory over Emmanuel (Mass.) College on Friday afternoon at a chilly, rainy Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-3 on the season.

Senior J.D. Nozemack opened the scoring for the Eagles on an assist from Michael Seraphin-Jones just 1:34 into the game. Emmanuel tied the game at 1-1, and then the Eagles took charge, scoring the next four goals, including three to close the first. Moag scored his first on the day at 8:56, and Seraphin-Jones followed 41 seconds later. Moag capped the quarter with 2:16 left.

Jackson Popeck capped the run with a score assisted by Jake Furman with 14:10 left in the second. The Saints answered with a score, but the Eagles thn scored the final five goals before halftime to take command at 10-2. Furman scored on a Seraphin-Jones assist at 12:47, Nozemack scored unassisted at 11:35, and Moag scored on a Jackson Rhodes assist at 9:24. Furman scored on a Moag pass at 7:18, and Dave Votapek scored on a Furman assist at 2:30 remaining.

After Emmanuel opened the scoring in the third, the Eagles gained goals from Moag, Popeck, and Ryan Adams, with assists going to Davis, Keller Dillman, and Luke Williams. Ayden Hammell scored the Eagles' lone tally in the fourth, on a Dillman feed.

The Eagles led in shots, 41-35, as well as ground balls, 34-27. UMW goalie Wyatt Martin gained the win with 11 saves in 30 minutes, while Ryan D'Angelo (four saves), Bryce Oprandi (three), David Pritchard, and Nick Balducci (one) combined to keep the Eagles in front in the second half.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Roanoke College at 4:00 p.m.
