UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at #1 CNU on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 24-1 decision at top-ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday in Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference action in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 8-8 on the season.

The Captains jumped ahead in the first quarter with 10 goals, and added five in the second quarter to take a 15-0 lead to halftime. In the third, CNU opened the period with a score, but the Eagles answered with a tally with 13:22 remaining. The top-ranked Captains scored three more times in the third and five times in the fourth.

The Eagles were outshot, 66-19, on the day, and posted 30 ground balls to 61 for CNU. UMW goalkeeper Riley Green made 12 saves in three quarters, while Wyatt Martin added a pair of saves in the fourth while splitting time with Noah Smith and Nicholas Balducci. Sam Allen led with four ground balls.

The Eagles will close the regular season next Saturday when they visit Salisbury University, with opening faceoff starting at 1:00 p.m.
