UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Messiah, 19-7, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team erupted for 19 goals in defeating Messiah University, 19-7, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-5 on the season.

The Eagles started the scoring in the first minute of play, as Hunter Tipton scored unassisted. After a pair of Falcon goals, the Eagles reeled off the next five goals, and never looked back. J.D. Nozemack and Michael Seraphin-Jones scored for UMW to close the first, and Tipton opened the second with his second of the day, followed by two more goals from Nozemack.

Messiah interrupted the run with a score, but UMW ended the period with five straight goals, coming from Kevin Cruz, Jackson Davis, Nozemack, Cameron Walker, and Kristopphe Newman, to take an 11-3 lead to halftime.

Messiah scored first to open the third quarter, but the Eagles responded with scores from Keegan Shipe and Walker to up the advantage to 13-4. After another Falcon goal, Nozemack, Davis, Jackson Popeck, and Ethan Rosenberger found the nets, and UMW carried a 17-5 lead to the fourth quarter.

Popeck scored his second of the day to open the fourth, and was followed by Luke Williams to cap the Eagle scoring. Messiah added a pair of late scores to drw to within 19-7.

The Eagles led in shots, 51-26, as well as in ground balls, 46-23. UMW goalkeeper Riley Green made eight saves in allowing four goals, and Wyatt Martin made one save, with Noah Smith stopping three in 12 minutes.

UMW will be back in action next Saturday when they host Richard Stockton at noon.
