The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a tough 13-12 overtime to visiting St. Mary's College on Sunday afternoon in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 1-7 overall, and 0-4 in league play.

In a tight, back and forth affair in which neither team led by more than two goals the entire game, Mary Washington started the scoring less than a minute into play on a Garret Keogh score, assisted by J.D. Nozemack. The Eagles upped the lead to 2-0 with 9:58 left, as Ethan Castleman scored on a Nozemack feed. The Seahawks responded with a pair of goals to tie the score, but Cameron Walker scored unassisted with 3:46 left to put UMW back on top. The Seahawks scored in the final second of the first to send the score tied to the second.

The Eagles again scored first in the second quarter, as J.C. Reynolds scored on a Logan Green assist with 1:01 elapsed. After a SMC goal knotted the score, UMW ran back ahead with goals from Walker at 7:57 and 6:12, with assists going to Nathan Turney and Nozemack. St. Mary's would score the next two goals to again tie the score, but UMW's Jackson Davis scored on a Hunter Tipton assist with 52 seconds left to send UMW to intermission with a 7-6 lead.

St. Mary's scored the first two goals of the third period before UMW rallied with three straight. Green scored on a Walker assist with 10:19 left, and Kieran Field scored another 17 seconds later. Castleman scored on another Nozemack assist with 7:57 remaining in the third. After a Seahawk score cut the margin to 10-9, Jamin Lane scored for UMW from deep near midfield. St. Mary's scored the final goal of the frame to send the game to the fourth with UMW holding an 11-10 lead.

In a low scoring period, St. Mary's scored with 14 and 10 minutes left to take a 12-11 lead, but Brandon Davis scored on a Green assist with 7:21 left to tie the game at 12, and that score would hold through regulation. SMC scored the winner with 48 seconds left in overtime.

The Eagles held a 33-32 edge in shots, while St. Mary's held a 37-34 edge in ground balls. UMW goalie Riley Green made 10 saves for the Eagles.
