UMW Men’s Lacrosse Falls to CNU in CAC 1st Round

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to Christopher Newport University, 20-6, on Saturday afternoon in the first round tournament of the CAC tournament. The Eagles conclude their season with a record of 7-11.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 start as Shane McKenzie scored just 24 seconds into the game. From there, the Captains scored five straight to close out the first quarter with a score of 5-1. 

In the second quarter, CNU added three early goals. UMW then took advantage of a man-up opportunity with 10:52 left as Sean Tuite scored on an assist from Cole Hogan to put the game at 8-2. The Captains added seven straight goals to end the quarter to extend their lead to 15-2.

UMW went scoreless in the third quarter and CNU took advantage as they added three goals. After an early goal by the Captains in the fourth quarter, Chris White scored on an assist from McKenzie. To close the game out, White added another goal on an assist from Kieran Burns. Cole Hogan added two goals before the game ended to.

Eli Ayer led the way with 11 ground balls, and Robert Tata picked up eight. Tata also caused a career-high seven turnovers.
