The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to top-ranked Salisbury University, 15-3, on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles slip to 6-6 overall, and 0-1 in CAC play.
Salisbury got out to a fast start as they went up 6-0 in the first eight minutes. UMW then closed the first quarter out on a good note as they scored the last three goals. Cole Hogan put one in the back of the net with 3:21 to play as he scored on a slim angle. With 1:58 left in the quarter, Kieran Burns scored on an assist from Hogan for his seventh goal of the season and put the game at 6-2. With just three-seconds remaining in the quarter, Chris White found the back of the net as she scored on an assist from Shane McKenzie and make the game 6-3.
The two teams had a slow second quarter as the Eagles were not able to score one and Salisbury scored two goals. The Seagulls scored at the 10:31 mark on a man-up opportunity and then with 5:24 scored the last goal of the quarter to hold an 8-3 lead at the half.
In the second half, UMW failed to score and Salisbury took advantage as they scored two goals in the third quarter and then added five in the fourth quarter to win 15-3.
Robert Tata led UMW with six ground balls and also caused two turnovers. Davis King caused one turnover while also picking up three ground balls. Lucas Whittie made 13 saves in goal for the Eagles.
UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to CNU for a game at 1 p.m.
