Senior midfielder Owen Dingman scored four goals and added one assist to elad the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to an 11-6 victory at Ursinus College on Saturday in Collegeville, Pa. The Eagles move to 3-1 on the season.
The Bears scored first in the contest, but UMW tied the score on a man up goal from Dingman on a Shane McKenzie assist with 5:29 left. After another Ursinus goal, Chris White tied the score at 2-2 on a Chase Kapuscienski assist with 2:44 left. Kieran Burns gave UMW the lead with 2:25 remaining on another Kapuscienski pass.
McKenzie scored the lone goal of the second quarter, unassisted with 4:59 left, and the Eagles held a 4-2 advantage at intermission.
Ursinus drew to within one to open the third, but Dingman found the nets on another man up opportunity with 9:44 left on a McKenzie assist. Cole Hogan scored with 3:58 left on a Dingman pass, before the Bears cut the margin to 6-4 entering the fourth quarter.
After Ursinus cut the margin to 6-5, the Eagles scored five of the final goals to put the game away. Dingman scored on a McKenzie assist with 13:41 left, and White scored on a Burns pass with 11:31 left. After an Ursinus score, Burns scored with 7:37 left, and Ben Byrne followed with 4:33 left on a McKenzie assist. Dingman capped the scoring with 2:27 on the clock.
Ursinus held a 40-39 edge in shots, and each team had 31 ground balls. The Eagles were 3-4 on man up chances, and cleared 18 of 21 chances. Goalie Billy Senicola made nine saves in gaining the win in goal, and Dingman and Robert Tata led with five ground balls each.
The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they visit Widener University at 1 p.m.
