White’s Four Goals Leads UMW Men’s Lacrosse Past Shenandoah, 17-6, on Saturday Afternoon

Junior Chris White scored four goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team past Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles improve to 2-1 overall.

The Eagles jumped out fast as they scored the first five goals of the game. White scored two of them, while Kieran Burns, Conor Healy, and Cole Hogan all added one. Shenandoah got on the board at the 6:11 mark and that wrapped up the scoring for the first quarter.

UMW pushed the lead to 7-1 on a goal from Ben Byrne and then Healy added another. Shenandoah added a second goal with 2:58 remaining in the second quarter. Junior Shane McKenzie gave the Eagles an 8-2 lead with nine-seconds left in the half.

Just 12 seconds into the third quarter, Byrne added his second goal of the game to put UMW up 9-2. White added his third goal on an assist from McKenzie with 14:21 left in the third quarter. The Hornets cut the score to 10-3, until McKenzie added his second goal of the day to put the score at 11-3. Shenandoah scored with 6:44 left in the third quarter to cut it to seven, 11-4. The Eagles scored the last two goals of the quarter to push the lead to 13-4.

Sean Tuite scored his second goal of the game with 13:23 left in the fourth and Davis Perkins added a goal with 12:15 left to grow the Eagles lead to 11, 15-4. Freshman Jamin Lane scored his first career goal with 9:51 left in the game. The Hornets scored the next two goals to get the score to 16-6. Bryant Baus capped the scoring on the day as he scored with 11 seconds remaining and the Eagles took the win, 17-6.

UMW led in shots 42-25, as well as ground balls 45-30. The Eagles won 14-25 faceoffs, and 18-21 attempts. Billy Senicola recorded four saves to pick up the win in goal. Eli Ayer led the Eagles with six ground balls. 

UMW will return to action on Saturday, 2/24, as they travel to Ursinus at 3 p.m.
