The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team overcame an early deficit to defeat Frostburg State University, 9-7, on Wednesday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action in Frostburg. The Eagles improve to 7-7 overall, and 4-3 in CAC play, while the Bobcats slip to 8-6 and 4-3.

The Bobcats opened the game by scoring the two first two goals early in the first quarter. UMW responded with a goal from Jack Carver on an Owen Dingman assist with 6:07 on the clock, and Robert Tata scored on a Drew Carlson assist with 5:52 left to tie the score, which remained true through the rest of the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged to the Bobcats, as FSU scored three goals in the frame, while the Eagles were kept off the scoreboard. Frostburg led at halftime, 5-2.

The Eagles stormed back in the third quarter, scoring three goals in 1:30 to tie the score again. Miles Davis scored unassisted with 11:01 remaining, and Carlsons cored on a Ben Byrne assist with 10:16 showing. Dingman brought UMW all the way back with a tally with 9:31 left on a Mike Marson assist. The home team settled back in and scored the next two goals, and after three periods, Frostburg led by a score of 7-5.

In the fourth the Eagles dominated play, to erase the deficit and take the important league win. Shane McKenzie scored unassisted with 14:05 left, and Marson scored with 13:16 to go on a Davis feed to tie the score yet again. Carlson provided the eventual game winner with 7:38 remaining, and Conor Healy scored on a Davis assist with 6:52 left as an insurance tally.

The Eagles led in shots, 38-28, as well as ground balls, 30-21. UMW won 12 of 20 faceoffs, and Tata and Dingman each had four ground balls. Billy Senicola gained the win in goal, making 11 saves in 60 minutes.

UMW will close the regular season on Saturday by hosting Marymount University in a CAC contest starting at 1:00 p.m. for senior day.
