UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to #6 York, 13-7, on Saturday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to Capital Athletic Conference rival York College, 13-7, on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles drop to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in CAC play.

In the first, York scored at the 11:00 mark, but the Eagles answered two minutes later when Shane McKenzie found Miles Davis. York answered with three goals before Davis dished out his first of three assists to Chris White on a man-up opportunity to cut the deficit to 4-2. York scored with just over a minute left to take a 5-2 advantage going into the second quarter.

In the second, the Eagles struck first when Vince Smiroldo found Mike Marson for his first goal of the day. York answered less than a minute later at the 10:01 mark, but the Eagles answered quickly when Davis found Marson to cut the lead back to two at 6-4. York scored two more before Davis found Drew Carlson with six seconds left in the half.

After York put up three goals in the third, Smiroldo found Marson again at the beginning of the fourth to cut the lead to 11-6. Marson found Jack Carver with 9:14 left to cap the scoring for the Eagles. York tallied two more goals in the fourth to bring the final score to 13-7.

Marson scored three goals and had one assist, while Davis tallied three assists and scored one to lead the Eagles. Billy Senicola recorded 13 saves in goal for the Eagles.

York led in ground balls, 48-38, and in shots, 39-32.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as they host Christopher Newport at 4:00 pm.
