UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at Frostburg State, 20-13, on Tuesday in CAC Tourney First Round

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-13 decision at #20 Frostburg State University on Tuesday in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles season comes to a close with a record of 7-10.

In a wide open, high scoring affair, the Bobcats struck first, but the Eagles responded with two scores to take an early 2-1 lead. Freshman Chris White scored with 13:00 left in the first on a Miles Davis assist, and Noah Dewey followed with an unassisted tally with 9:35 left. But Frostburg closed the quarter with five straight scores to grab the lead at 6-2 after 15 minutes.

Freshman Shane McKenzie cut the margin to 6-3 to open the second, but Frostburg responded with four straight goals over the next seven minutes. Mike Marson scored with 3:17 left on a Davis King feed, and Davis scored with 18 seconds left to cut the deficit to 10-5 at halftime.

The Eagles cut further into the margin to open the third, as Drew Carlson scored on a Davis pass with 11:35 left on a man-up opportunity, and Marson scored again with 9:41 in the third to move the score to 10-7.

After an FSU score, the Eagles used a Marson score with 5:54 left and a White goal with 5:03 to go on a Davis assist to cut the deficit to two, at 11-9. The Bobcats scored three straight before Davis ended the third with a goal with one second left, giving Frostburg a 14-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

White scored again on a Davis assist, and Marson added two scores in the fourth, but the hosts edged away with six goals of their own. 

The Bobcats led in shots, 47-43, and in ground balls, 37-24. UMW goalie Sam Wasson had six saves and Alex Freidrich had one in 15 minutes in goal for UMW.

Marson had five goals and an assist, while Davis had two goals and three assists to lead UMW.

Frostburg will advance to the semifinals of the CAC Tournament, while the Eagles see their season come to a close with a mark of 7-10.
