UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Wesley, 19-8, in Saturday CAC Tilt

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-3 after one quarter in defeating Wesley College, 19-8, on Saturday at the Battleground for Senior Day. The Eagles improve to 4-8 overall, and 2-3 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Eagles offense jumped out strong with eight first quarter goals. Jack Carver opened the scoring with 13:28 remaining, and Mike Marson added another score one minute later. Wesley scored a pair of goals to tie the contest, but the Eagles netted the next three to take the lead for good.

Chris White scored on an Owen Dingman assist with 6:18 left, and Dingman scored with 5:30 left on a Marson feed. White scored with 2:48 left to lift the lead to 5-2. After a Wolverine goal, senior Matt Cherry scored ten seconds later at 2:31 left, Miles Davis scord with 1:41 remaining, and Cole Hogan scored on a Shane McKenzie pass with 11 seconds left.

The Eagle offense remained strong and the defense tightened in the second, as the Eagles extended the lead to 13-3 by halftime. Carver scored on a Carlson assist with 13:00 left, and Mack Cary scored with 12:08 left on a Mike Marson pass.

Davis scored with 7:59 left on a White feed, and McKenzie scored on a man-up opportunity with 6:12 to go. Mack Cary scored on a Carlson assist with 4:19 remaining.

In the third, Kieran Burns scored with 13:13 left to extend the lead to 14-3, before Wesley netted a pair of goals. James Cicio scored with 1:51 to go to cap the period scoring.

In the fourth, White scored on a Conor Healy assist in the opening minute, and Cicio scored with 11:12 to go to up the advantage to 17-5. After a Wesley goal, Cicio scored with 6:01 to go, on a Noah Dewey assist. Sean Tuite scored with 3:39 left on a Vince Smiroldo assist to cap the Eagles scoring before Wesley ended the contest with a pair of scores.

The Eagles led in shots, 47-23, and in ground balls, 44-35. The Eagles won 18 of 30 faceoffs. Billy Senicola had three saves and Sam Wasson two for UMW.

White had three goals and an assist and Cicio added three scores for UMW.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College at 4:00 p.m.
