UMW Men's Lax Falls to #2 Salisbury, 9-4, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to #2 Salisbury University, 9-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles fall to 3-6 on the season, and 1-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

In the early going, the Eagles struck first when Miles Davis scored at the 8:45 mark to give UMW a 1-0 lead. Salisbury scored just over a minute later, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the second period.

With 12:51 left in the second period, Davis found Drew Carlson to put the Eagles up 2-1. Salisbury responded and closed the half with three goals to take a 4-2 lead.

In the third period, Salisbury scored again in the first two minutes to increase the margin to three, at 5-2. Mike Marson scored at the 10:30 mark, bringing the score to 5-3 and keeping the Eagles close heading into the fourth.

Salisbury came out hot in the fourth, scoring four unanswered, jumping to a 9-3 lead. Carlson found Jack Carver with 1:04 to bring the final score to 9-4.

The young Eagles fought hard and gave the #2 nationally ranked Sea Gulls all they could handle. The Eagles made many defensive stands, which included some impressive saves from goalie Sam Wasson, but Salisbury was able to pull away in the fourth. After the game, UMW Head Coach Kurt Glaeser said he was proud of his team's effort and the way they competed throughout.

Salisbury won 14 out of 17 faceoffs and led in shots 41-14. Wasson recorded nine saves in goal for the Eagles.

The Eagles are back in action next Saturday when they visit York 1:00 pm.
