UMW Men's Lax Drops Night Contest with Washington & Lee, 11-6, on Wednesday

The Washington & Lee University men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter en route to an 11-6 victory over The University of Mary Washington on Wednesday night in a game played under the lights at the campus recreation turf field. The Eagles slip to 2-4 on the season.

The Generals opened the scoring with 13:02 remaining, and added another with 9:25 left. Washington & Lee pushed the score to 3-0 with 7:10 remaining and added another with 24 seconds left to lead, 4-0, after the first quarter.

The Eagles started the second with a goal with 13:30 left from Owen Dingman, and after another WLU score, another from Dingman with 9:44 left. The Generals extended their lead to 7-2 with a pair of goals, but Dingman scored his third of the day with 2:23 left to push the margin to 7-3 for halftime.

After a Generals goal opened the third, Dingman continued his assualt with his fourth score of the night with 6:23 remaining in the period. Freshman Noah Dewey added another goal for the Eagles with 53 seconds left to close the gap to 8-5 entering the fourth quarter.

In the final stanza, UMW closed the gap to 8-6 with 13:58 remaining on a Miles Davis score, but Washington & Lee ended the game with a three-goal spurt to run the final to 11-6.

The Eagles led in shots, 30-28, and ground balls, 45-35. The Eagles won 13 of 21 faceoffs. Sam Wasson had four saves and Billy Senicola had four saves for the Eagles, sharing time in goal.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they host Southern Virginia University at noon.
