Krikorian Provides Game Winner as UMW Men's Lax Tops Marymount, 8-7; Advances to CAC Tournament

Senior Jared Krikorian scored the game winning goal with 2:39 remaining in regulation to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win over Marymount University in the regular season finale on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-7 on the season, and advance to the CAC Tournament next week.

Marymount jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal with 13:08 remaining, but the Eagles tied the score at 10:59 left in the first on a Miles Davis score. Davis scored again on a Krikorian assist 45 seconds later, giving UMW a 2-1 lead.

The Saints tied the score less than a minute later, but freshman Owen Dingman put the Eagles back up at 7:55 left, on a Mike Marson assist. Marymount again tied the score with 9:57 left in the second quarter, but Jack Bondurant scored with 8:04 left, to give the Eagles a 4-3 advantage at halftime.

Marymount came out strong to open the third quarter, tying the score with 11:48 remaining, and taking the lead three minutes later. UMW responded with a goal from Davis with 6:50 remaining, and another from Bondurant with 4:45 left on a Jack Carver assist.

The back and forth action continued into the fourth quarter, as Marymount tied the score with 13:33 left, and took the lead at 7-6 with 8:03 to play. The Eagles found the tying goal with 7:04 remaining from Ben Byrne on a Marson assist, and Krikorian found the winner with 2:39 left.

The Eagles led in shots, 38-22, and ground balls, 41-27. Freshman Colin Bressan made 11 saves in goal for Mary Washington, while Chris Garcia had six ground balls and Travis Peed five for the Eagles.

Davis led all scorers with three goals, while Bondurant added two.

The Eagles will advance to the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday against the third seed on the road, panding Saturday's other league results.
