UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to St. Mary's, 9-6, in Wednesday Night CAC Contest

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-6 decision to visiting St. Mary's College on Wednesday night under the lights in Fredericksburg. The Eagles fall to 5-6 overall, and 2-4 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Seahawks started strong, scoring twice in the first and the first goal of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Jack Bondurant scored for UMW with 9:18 left in the second, and Jared Krikorian scored with 7:03 remaining to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Seahawks closed the half with a pair of goals to take a 5-2 advantage into halftime.

The Eagles wasted little time cutting into the deficit in the third quarter, as Miles Davis scored with 14:19 left in the period, and Owen Dingman cut the margin to 5-4 with a score assisted by Greg Smith with 11:34 left.

The Seahawks answered with goals with 8:47 and 8:17 left to take a 7-4 lead. Davis capped the third quarter scoring with 5:34 left, as the Eagles entered the fourth trailing, 7-5.

St. Mary's scored in the opening seconds of the fourth, and again with 7:46 left to up its lead to 9-5. Mike Marson scored with 6:29 to go to cap the scoring at 9-6.

The Eagles led in shots, 40-29, and in ground balls, 23-19. Colin Bressan made seven saves in goal for the Eagles. Jared Golden added five ground balls.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they take on Albright College at 2:00 p.m. at Loyola High School in Baltimore.
