UMW Men's Lax Falls to CNU, 14-11, in CAC Contest

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-11 decision to visiting Christopher Newport University on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles all to 4-5 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead with the first goal, scored by Teddy Blyskal with 11:04 left in the first, but CNU closed the quarter with three straight goals to take a 3-1 advantage. In the second, Mike Marson closed the gap to 3-2 for the Eagles, but the Captains scored four straight. Miles Davis scored the final goal of the second, with 1:46 left, to close the halftime deficit to 7-3.

UMW started the third by trimming the deficit to 7-4, as Marson scored on a Davis assist with 13:31 left. Ater a CNU score, Jack Bondurant scored on a Smith assist with 8:10 remaining. Once again CNU answered, but Jared Krikorian scored with 1:25 to go to cut the score to 9-6 entering the final quarter.

The Eagles made a charge, scoring three straight ater a Captains goal to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 8:29 to go. Owen Dingman, Marson, and Blyskal scored in the run. But the Captains scored four of the final six goals to take the 14-11 win. Smith and Bondurant tallied the late goals for UMW.

The Captains led in shots, 40-28, and ground balls, 34-18. Freshman Colin Bressan made seven saves in goal for the Eagles.

Marson led the Eagles with three goals and an assist, while Blyskal and Bondurant each had two scores.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they visit Wesley College at 1 p.m.
