UMW Men's Lax Falls to York, 9-6, in CAC Action on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-6 decision to visiting York College at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in CAC play.

Mary Washington started strong, scoring the first goal with 10:33 left in the first quarter. After York tied the score, the Eagles went ahead on a Mike Marson score with 8:24 remaining. York again tied the score with 2:32 to play, but the Eagles got a boost when Miles Davis scored with 1:16 left, giving UMW aa 3-2 advantage after 15 minutes.

In the second, York tied the score again with 8:38 left, but Greg Smith scored on a Bondurant assist with 4:52 left, and Marson scored with 3:50 left to give UMW a 5-3 halftime advantage.

The third quarter saw the Eagles score first, as Bondurant scored with 13:32 left, to up the Eagle lead to 6-3. From there, York took over, scoring the final six goals. The Spartans scored twice in the third to cut the deficit to 6-5, and netted four fourth quarter goals  for the 9-6 win.

The Eagles led in shots, 34-29, and York led in ground balls, 12-6. Both goalies, UMW's Colin Bressan and York's Caleb Abney, made 14 saves in the game.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday as the Eagles host Christopher Newport University at 4:00 p.m.
