UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Ferrum, 15-6, on Wednesday

Senior Jack Bondurant scored four goals and added two assists to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 15-6 win at Ferrum College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season.

The Panthers jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the opening 2:36 to take a 2-0 advantage. But the Eagles responded, outscoring the Panthers 7-0 for the rest of the first half in gaining a 7-2 lead after two quarters.

Sophomore Mike Marson opened the rally on a Chris Garcia assist with 3:06 left in the first, and Bondurant scored on a Miles Davis pass with 34 seconds left in the first to knot the score at 2-2.

In the second quarter, the Eagles outscored the Panthers, 5-0. Jared Golden scored 16 seconds into the period, followed by Bondurant two minutes later. Bondurant scored his third goal with 9:39 left, and Garcia scored with 4:54 left to push the score to 6-2. Davis scored with 3:44 remaining to cap the first half scoring with UMW ahead, 7-2.

Ferrum started the third quarter with a goal, but UMW scored three straight, by Davis, Garcia, and Owen Dingman just before the horn ended the quarter, giving UMW a 10-3 advantage entering the final 15 minutes.

Bondurant scored with 11:37 left, and after a Ferrum man-up goal, Greg Smith scored twice, and Ben Byrne and Drew Carlson each added one, giving UMW a 15-4 lead with 4:47 to go. Ferrum scored twice late to push the final to 15-6.

Bondurant had four goals and two asissts, while Davis and Garcia each had two goals and two assists for UMW. The Eagles led in shots, 43-22, and in ground balls, 42-20. Colin Bressan had four saves in goal for UMW.

The Eagles will visit Salisbury University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Capital Athletic Conference action.
