Opening Faceoff: The #18 Mary Washington Eagles come into the contest with #5 Cabrini at 14-3 on the year. UMW is coming off a 13-9 loss to #15 York College in the semifinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament last week. The Eagles finished the season winning seven of their last eight games.
About the Cavaliers: Cabrini is making their 13th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers won the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title by defeating Marywood 25-5 back on May 3rd.
One for the History Books: Mary Washington had a record breaking season in 2014. The team set a record for most victories in a season (14), reaching their highest national ranking in school history (#13 back on April 21st). Luke Dick became the first Eagle to earn CAC Player of the Year honors as well.
Two Headed Monster: Seniors Luke Dick (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and John Bohlinger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) lead a high flying Eagle attack. Dick led the team with points (78) and assists (34), while Bohlinger and Dick are tied at the top with 44 goals each. Both men rank in the top five in the CAC in each category.
DelGrosso Stands Tall: Senior keeper Zack DelGrosso (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle) has stood tall in the cage for the Eagles this season. Zack heads into the tournament with a 14-3 record, having 154 saves. Zack has let in just 109 goals, fewest in the CAC, for a goals against average of 7.11. He also boasts the third best save percentage at 58.6%.
CAC Recognition: In addition to Dick, four other Eagles earned All-CAC honors this year. Bohlinger, Joey Marson (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly), Chip Pittard (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), and Charlie Webb (Vienna, Va./Madison) earned second team honors for the Eagles.
