Bohlinger and Burke Pace #14 Eagles Past Christopher Newport, 13-6, on Wednesday

Newport News, Va.-- The #14 University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team picked up a key CAC victory over CNU, 13-6, on Wednesday. The Eagles got out to a two goal lead after one period, and never looked back. Mary Washington moves to 10-2, 2-2 CAC on the year. 

Chip Pittard got the scoring going, scoring just two minutes into the game. The reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week John Bohlinger got a goal with 6:39 left in the quarter from Joey Marson to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead after one.

UMW started the second the way they played the first, scoring twice to start. Joey Marson netted a goal with 13:13 remaining in the half. Pittard got his second of the game from a Luke Dick assist to give UMW a 4-0 lead. CNU got on the board just seconds later, cutting the lead to 4-1. Griffin Burke then scored off a Dick pass to increase the lead to four at 5-1. John Thompson scored for the Captains, before Burke scored his second with less than a minute remaining. The Eagles took a 6-2 lead into the locker rooms.

The Eagles outscored the Captains 5-2 in the third quarter. Bohlinger and Dick each scored midway through the quarter, giving UMW an 8-2 advantage. Travis Peed got on the board with a goal with 5:18 left in the stanza, while Greg Smith and Bohlinger scored in the final minute, to take an 11-4 lead into the final period.

Burke and Joey Marson each scored in the fourth, as the Eagles rolled to a 13-6 win against CNU. Zack DelGrosso was solid in between the pipes, making 15 saves on 27 shots for the win. Bohlinger and Burke each scored three goals for the Eagles, while Luke Dick dished out three assists. 

The Eagles return to the field on Saturday, April 12th, when they host Frostburg State in a CAC showdown. Faceoff with the Bobcats is set for 2:00 p.m.
