Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #17 University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team pulled out a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Generals on Wednesday at the Battleground. Griffin Burke scored with 44 seconds remaining to lift the Eagles past W&L. The Eagles stay perfect at 6-0 on the year.

UMW jumped out early, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game. Luke Dick got the party started with a goal from Joey Marson just 41 seconds in. Burke scored his first goal of the day of a Chip Pittard assist just seconds later, giving UMW a 2-0 lead. Cam Lewis cut the lead to 2-1 after scoring with 5:20 to go in the quarter.

John Bohlinger scored to open the second quarter to push the lead back to two. But it was the Generals who scored twice to tie the contest with a Cam Lewis and Sean Gebhard goal, man up, to tie the game at 3-3. Pittard and Bohlinger would have the answers. The duo scored on back to back possessions to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead going into the break.

Neither team could find the net in third, as the two teams went scoreless. The fourth quarter, however, brought plenty of tallies. Garrett Paglia and Jack Reuter scored midway through the stanza to tie the game up with 6:54 remaining. 

Then the Eagles would answer back, regaining the lead with 5:00 to go thanks to Bohlinger's third of the game on the man up opprotunity. Paglia broke the backs of the Eagles by scoring 59 seconds later to tie the contest at six all. 

Burke silenced the Generals in the final minute. With the Eagles only having three seconds to shoot, Billy Kelly took the restart and threw a cross-field pass to a wide open Burke, who buried it past General keeper Warren Berenis. The Eagles staved off the Generals on their final possession to win 7-6.

Bohlinger paced the Eagles with three tallies, while Burke had two. Pittard and Luke Dick provided the other Eagle goals. The game was even in just about every statistical category. UMW won nine face offs, while W&L won eight. Zack DelGrosso made ten saves in between the pipes.

UMW opens CAC play with a game at York (Pa.) on Saturday. Face off with the Spartans is set for 3:00 p.m. from the White Rose city.
