Ashland, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team knocked off the Yellow Jackets 13-7 on Wednesday, behind a hat trick from Joey Marson. UMW moves to 2-0 to open the season.
Marson led the Eagles attack, scoring three goals on four shots. Marson also picked up three ground balls in the contest. A trio of Eagles scored two goals in the contest. Luke Dick, John Bohlinger and reigning CAC Player of the Week Billy Kelly each had a pair of goals. J.D. West, Matt Cherry, Chris Garcia and Griffin Burke also scored a goal for the Eagles.
Zack DelGrosso made ten saves for the Eagles between the pipes, only allowing seven goals on 17 shots faced to earn the win. The Eagles as a team rattled off 43 shots total on Yellow Jacket keeper Brian Davies. UMW also held a 14-8 advantage on faceoffs, forcing 14 Randolph-Macon turnovers.
The Eagles return to action this Saturday, February 22nd, when they travel to McDaniel. The game against the Green Terror begins at 1:00 p.m.
