UMW Men's Lax Tops Randolph-Macon, 12-8


Junior middie Sean Dacey scored four goals in leading the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 12-8 victory at Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland, Va. The Eagle simprove to 7-2 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-3.

In a high-scoring first quarter, the Eagles jumped ahead on a Luke Dick goal just over one minute into the game. After Randolph-Macon tied the score at one, UMW scored goals from Dacey and Pete McDermott, and after the teams traded goals, UMW led, 4-2, with 3:06 left in the first quarter.

From there, the Yellow Jackets scored four straight goals, including all three in the second quarter, and Randolph-Macon led, 6-4, at halftime. The Eagles then answered in a big way, netting the next seven goals of the game. Dacey scored twice and senior Harry Snyder once to open the third quarter, and then sophomore John Bohlinger scored twice around a Joey Marson tally to give the Eagles an 11-6 lead with 8:49 left in the game.

Dacey capped the scoring to up the lead to 12-7, with the Jackets adding a score in the final minute to cut the deficit to 12-8. The Eagles led in shots, 51-34, and had 26 ground balls to 23 for the hosts. The Eagles won 13-23 faceoffs, and senior goalie Matt Prin had 13 saves in goals for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will visit St. Mary's College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a key Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
