The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-6 decision to 10th ranked Stevenson University on Saturday at a rainy Battleground. The Eagles fall to 6-2 overall, and 2-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Mustangs scored first, tallying the opening goal with less than three minutes elapsed in the game. UMw answered at 9:01 remaining, as senior paul Tunick scored on a Luke Dick assist. The game remained tied at one until the end of the first quarter.

Then, with 11:21 remaining in the second, JP Coombes scored to put the Mustangs back on top, 2-1. The Eagles answered with a tying goal less than one minute later, as Luke Dick scored unassisted at 10:46. Dick scored again with 8:05 left to give UMW a 3-2 advantage. The Eagles then committed a pair of penalties that led to Mustang goals, and Stevenson led at halftime, 4-3.

Stevenson scored the first five goals of the third quarter to up the lead to 9-3, and putting the Eagles' chances in dire straits. Paul Tunick scored on a Sean Dacey assist in the waning seconds of the third to cut the deficit to 9-4 entering the fourth quarter.

In the final 15 minutes, Luke Dick and Greg Smith tallied goals, but Stevenson was able to score four times en route to the 13-6 victory.

Stevenson led in shots, 34-33, and both teams collected 44 ground balls. Senior goalie Matt Prin had nine saves for the Eagles, who won 11 of 23 faceoffs and went 15-18 on clear attempts. Dick had three goals and one assist for UMW, while Stevenson had four players with two goals apiece.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Weddnesday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
