UMW Men's Lax Tops Frostburg, 10-1


The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team topped Frostburg State University, 10-1, on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action at the Battleground. UMW improves to 7-5 on the season, and 3-2 in league play.

The Eagles opened up a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, as junior Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) opened the scoring with 13:36 remaining. Sophomore Sean Dacey (Round Hill, Va., Loudoun Valley) added another score with 4:50 left to up the lead to 2-0.

In the second, freshman John Bohlinger (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) assisted Kyle Johnson (Olney, Md., Sherwood) with 13:36 left, and senior Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison) scored unassisted with 11:13 remaining. Bohlinger scored with 9:46 left in the half to up the halftime advantage to 5-0.

Dacey scored on a Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee) feed with 9:46 left in the third, and Luke Dick (Annapolis, MD, Archbishop Spaulding HS) scored on a Weiss assist five minutes later to push the lead to 7-0. Bohlinger scored unassisted to cap the period scoring with five seconds remaining.

In the fourth, senior Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) scored on a Dacey assist with 6:00 remaining, and senior Travis Short (Ridgefield, Conn., Ridgefield) scored with 54 seconds left on a Cole Wyrough (Lothian, Md., Calverton School) feed to up the lead to 10-0. Frostburg scored with 28 seconds remaining to spoil the shutout.

The Eagles led in shots, 40-16, and had 20 ground balls to 22 for FSU. Ryan Kleman (Fairfax, VA, Robinson) had 12 saves for the Eagles, with Ryan Montgomery and Zack Del Grosso playing in the closing minutes.

The Eagles will host Hood College in another CAC game on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
