The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-3 decision at third ranked Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon to fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.
Stevenson was strong from the start, building a 15-0 lead into the third quarter. Sophomore Paul Tunick (Annandale, Va., Woodson), who led UMW with two goals, ruined the shutout with 7:14 remaining in the third. The score came on an assist from freshman Josh Furnary (Vienna, Va., Gonzaga). Senior Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) scored UMW's second goal with 3:26 left in the third quarter to cap the period scoring and move the score to 16-2.
Tunick scored his second goal of the game with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter on an extra man opportunity. In all, Stevenson outshot the Eagles, 66-12, and led in ground balls, 40-23. The Eagles used four goalies in the game, with Ryan Kleman (Fairfax, VA, Robinson) making 17 saves in 37:46 of action.
Mary Washington will host McDaniel College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
