UMW Men's Lax Falls to Hampden-Sydney, 13-10

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dug itself an early hole and couldn't scrap all the way back in a 13-10 loss to Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 1-1 on the season.

After UMW grabbed an early 2-0 lead, the Tigers reeled off 11 straight goals, led by Micah Keller, who scored eight times in the game, to lead, 11-2, at halftime. After both teams scored twice in the third quarter, the Eagles outscored HSC 6-0 in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles were led by junior Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield), who scored three goals and added one assist, and senior Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison), who had three assists. Sean Dacey (Round Hill, Va., Loudoun Valley), Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee), and Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) each scored twice for UMW.

The Tigers outshot UMW, 38-20, and had 35 ground balls to 26 for UMW. Ryan Kleman had six saves and Ryan Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C., Chapel Hill) five for the Eagles, each playing 30 minutes.

Mary Washington will visit third-ranked Stevenson University on Wednesday in the Capital Athletic Conference opener. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
