UMW Men's Lacrosse Tops Wooster, 12-6

Sophomore Harry Snyder and junior Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) each scored three goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory over visiting College of Wooster on Saturday evening on the turf field at UMW. The Eagles even their season record at 3-3.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a Brian Deal (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shady Side Academy) goal five minutes into play. After a Wooster goal tied the score, the Eagles reeled off the next six goals of the game into the third quarter. Snyder and Bowler each scored twice in the run, and middie Ryan Motyka (Germantown, Md., Watkins Mill) added one score.

The Eagles scored two of the final goals of the third quarter to lead, 9-2, with 15 minutes remaining. Snyder, James Fitzella (Vienna, Va., Madison), and Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison) scored to up the Eagle lead to 12-3, befoore Wooster scored three late tallies to cut the final to 12-6.

Mary Washington led in shots, 34-25, and had 25 ground balls to 20 for Wooster. The Eagles were 17-22 on clears, and the Scots were 11-14. Sophomore goalie Matt Prin (Olney, Md., Sherwood) had 11 saves and Ryan Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C., Chapel Hill) one for UMW.

The Eagles were led by Bowler's three goals and Snyder's three scores and two assists. Evan Weiss had two goals and an assist, and Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee) added three assists.

Mary Washington will visit Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
