UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at Hampden-Sydney, 11-7

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-7 decision at Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday to fall to 0-2 on the season. Senior attacker Dan Coats (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Eagles, while Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) added one goal and two assists. The game saw close action for the first two quarters, as the score was tied after one quarter and the Tigers held a 4-3 advantage at halftime. But a six-goal outburst by Hampden-Sydney in the third quarter was the difference, as the Eagles edged the hosts in the fourth, 2-1.

The Eagles led, 3-2, on the strength of goals from Brian Meaney, Dan Coats, and Harry Snyder, but HSC scored five straight to lead 7-3. The Eagles pulled to within 8-5, but the Tigers scored three of the last five goals to put the game away.
