Manceri Named to VaSID College Division Men's Golf First Team; Kelly Tabbed as Co-Rookie of the Year

ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore David Rabil of Christopher Newport was voted the Virginia State Player of the Year as the 2017 VaSID All-State College Division Men's Golf Awards were announced.

Jamie Coleman of Christopher Newport was selected Coach of the Year. Ethan Kelly of Mary Washington and Robert Quinilty of Washington & Lee tied for Rookie of the Year.

A native of Fairfax, Va., Rabil was named All-America First Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), one of only two sophomore to earn the honor. Rabil was a semifinalist for the Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award. He was also PING All-Region First Team, Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year and All-CAC First Team. Rabil won four tournaments, including the CAC championship. He helped CNU win its fourth straight CAC title and led the Captains to the NCAA Championship for the second consecutive year. Rabil broke the program's single-season scoring mark of 72.7 and the school record for low single-round scoring with a seven-under 64 at the Golfweek Fall Invitational.

Coleman was voted CAC Coach of the Year. He guided CNU to a 21st-place finished at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships. The Captains carded their fourth straight CAC championship and collected fourth conference coach-of-the-year honors. CNU had a program-record four All-Region selections along with two All-Americans. The Captains captured four of a possible nine tournaments in 2016-17. CNU also went 2-1 in match play.

Kelly, a native of Newnan, Ga., was named CAC Rookie of the Year and All-CAC First Team. He was second on the Eagles with a scoring average of 75.4 in 18 rounds with a low round of 66. Kelly tied for first in the Apprentice Invitational on March 5. He had a pair of Top Five finishes and four Top Ten finishes.

From Cypress, Texas, Quinilty was Old Dominion Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and All-ODAC First Team. He was PING All-South Region First Team. Quinilty tied for fifth at the Jeykll Island Collegiate with a score of 72-73-70--215 (-1). He tied for 17th at the ODAC Championship with a 77-76-82--235 (+19) Quinilty tied for 68th at the 2017 NCAA Championship with a 76-78-78-81--313 (+25) and helped W&L to a 14th-place finish.
