UMW Men's Golf Places Second at CAC Championships in Inaugural Season; Kelly takes CAC Rookie of the Year

The University of Mary Washington men's golf team concluded its first varsity season in grand fashion on Sunday, finishing in second place at the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Championships at Bay Creek Golf Club. Freshman Ethan Kelly was named the CAC Rookie of the Year, and he and fellow frosh Phillip Manceri were named first team All-CAC.

The Eagles shot a 318 on Sunday, with Kelly shooting a (+3) 75. Freshman Jason Guintu shot a (+8) 80, while Manceri shot a (+9) 81. Freshman Nathan Groner shot a (+10) 82, and freshman Brendan Kelly posted a (+11) 83.

For the Championship, the Eagles finished with an aggregate score of 952, which ranked behind only Christopher Newport's 898, and ahead of Marymount (969), York (973), Wesley (989), Penn State Harrisburg (1000), and New Jersey City (1126).

Individually, Ethan Kelly finished in fifth place with a three day score of 228, followed closely by Manceri's sixth place score of 231. Guintu finished 14th at 243, Brendan Kelly posted a 251, good for 17th place, and Groner finished tied for 23rd at 257.
