UMW Men's Basketball Falls to Christopher Newport in C2C Championship, 62-56

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 62-56 decision to Christopher Newport University on Saturday night at Ron Rosner Arena in the 2024 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference championship. The Eagles fall to 17-10 on the season.

The two teams provided a championship battle from the tip. Neither team could shake the other, with neither team leading by more than four points until 7:54 left in the half, as CNU hit a three to go up, 22-17. The Eagles answered with a three pointer from senior Cameron McCravy, but three free throws returned the margin to five. The Eagles trailed by two in the final minute, but five Captains points put them ahead, 32-25, at intermission.

A 13-2 run by the Eagles to start the second put them in front, 35-34. Freshman Jay Randall had four points in the run, as four different players scored. Dorian Davis then hit three straight free throws to up the Eagle advantage to 38-34 with 14:23 left. 

CNU responded with the next 13 points to grab a 47-38 advantage with 9:33 left. The Eagles would cut the deficit to four on several occasions, but would draw no closer.

Randall led the Eagles with a career-high 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Blue added 11 as the only other Eagle in double figures.

UMW shot 37.5% from the floor (21-56), making 5-23 three point attempts and 9-11 free throws. CNU shot 46.2% (18-29), making 6-12 three point tries and 20-23 free throws.
