UMW Men's Basketball Tops Salisbury, 64-57, for Win #14

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team used an early run to gain the lead, and proved victorious against Salisbury University, 64-57, on Wednesday night at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 14-7 on the season.

Trailing 8-2 in the early going, UMW went on a 17-5 run, with five different players scoring in the run, led by five each from Dorian Davis and Trey Pittman. The Sea Gulls regained the lead with six straight points with 4:51 left, 27-23, but UMW closed the half on a 9-4 streak to take a 32-31 lead to halftime.

In the second, the Eagles started swiftly, with a basket from Daniel Peterson and a three from Zack Blue, but Salisbury remained within single digits until a three pointer from Matias Prock with 10:57 left upped the margin to 49-39. Salisbury would pull to within four, at 51-47 with 8:25 left, but the Eagles were able to maintain the advantage.

Blue led the Eagles with 16 points on 5-12 shooting, making a pair of three pointers and 4-6 free throws as the only player in double figures. Peterson scored nine and added 11 rebounds.

The Eagles shot 24-56 from the field (42.9%), making 6-22 three point attempts and 10-14 free throws. Salisbury shot 19-56 from the field (33.9%), making 5-22 three point tries and 14-16 free throws. 

UMW will return to action on Saturday when they visit Christopher Ndewport University at 4:00 p.m.
