UMW Men's Basketball Pulls Away From Wilson, 72-48, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team broke open a tight game after halftime to defeat Wilson College, 72-48, on Wednesday night in Chambersburg, Pa. Sophomore Dorian Davis poured in a team-high 19 points, and senior Zack Blue added 17 for the Eagles, now 10-7 on the season.

The Eagles fell behind early on, trailing 8-2 before chipping away, and tied the score at 11-1 on a Blue layup with 14:08 remaining in the first. A pair of Davis three pointers gave the Eagles a 17-11 lead, and led by as many as 10, at 28-18 with 3:44 left. The Phoenix ended the half on an 11-2 run to pull to within 31-29 at halftime.

In the second half, Daniel Peterson hit a jumper to start a 17-0 run, with Blue adding a three pointer, followed by a four straight from Davis. UMW kept the hosts at a double-digit defict the rest of the way, pulling away late for the 24 point victory.

Davis shot 7-10 from the field, making 5-6 three point shots, and Blue went 4-7, making 3-6 threes and 6-6 free throws. Peterson led with six rebounds.

UMW shot 26-50 from the floor (52.0%), making 9-17 three point shots and 11-13 free throws. Wilson shot 17-48 (35.4%), making 6-19 three point shots and 8-9 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounding, 31-24, and caused 18 turnovers.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host Eastern Mennonite University at 3:00 p.m.a
